NOTE—The U.S. Virgin Islands, an unincorporated territory of the United States (by purchase from Denmark in 1917) comprising three islands, came under the administration of the Secretary of the Interior pursuant to Executive Order 5566 in 1931. The territory has a democratically elected government including a unicameral legislature (called the senate). There is no official web site for the government of the Virgin Islands, but some government departments maintain web sites, and there is a web site for the U.S. district court.
