Appellate cases can be retrieved by either text-search or official citation (e.g., “14 Cal. 4th 627” or “51 Cal. App. 4th 1410”) from a LexisNexis database spanning the entire collection of official California reports (starting in 1850). However, even though LexisNexis is the official publisher, this database does not show pagination for the official reports. Note: To retrieve a case using an unofficial citation (e.g., “34 Cal. Rptr. 3d 490” or “2005 Cal. App. LEXIS 1527”), select the “Advanced Search” option, then treat the citation as a text-search term, restrict the search to the CITES segment, and place the unofficial citation in the text field for that segment. (The citation thus will appear in two places on the advanced-search form.)

Note— In many cases, Judicial Council forms can be filled in and printed on either the Judicial Council web site (see “How to Use Fillable Forms”) or an interactive forms web site maintained by the San Mateo County Superior Court (for use in family-law cases, domestic-violence cases, small-claims cases, landlord-tenant cases, and guardianship or probate cases).
